Of course, that kind of rule works less well if you purchase the more expensive items, and such as a house or a car, however, for most purchases, this works very well. A lot of people generally are not good at delaying gratification, however, try to wait for a day or even more to make a purchase and actually making it by just doing a simple reevaluation if the item is totally worth it or not.
